Trader Joe’s
I asked your opinion a few weeks ago about what you wanted from The Coupon Challenge.  I have a separate post coming out soon, but one request was Trader Joe’s and organics.  Derrick and I are talking about what types of organic foods we could add into our budget.  We haven’t made any decisions yet, but I’ll let you know when we do.  In the meantime, I’m working on getting more organic deals for you.

I love Trader Joe’s!  It is a fairly decent drive, so I don’t go very often.  That and it’s pricey.  I will say that although most of the prices are more than I pay as a couponer, some  TJ’s brands are comparable in price to a sale price in a regular grocery store.  Example: TJ’s O’s are $1.99 a box.  These are like Cheerios.  That price is comparable to a sale at Farm Fresh without a coupon.

Trader Joe’s products are not all organic, but they don’t have artificial flavors or preservatives. I find that to be the biggest draw for me. Want to know what ingredients are in the peanut butter? Dry roasted peanuts and salt. That’s it.

You will be happy to know that TJ’s is now accepting manufacturers coupons for the non-TJ brand items they sell. I confirmed this with the VA Beach location. I saw Morning Star products (forget the price).  Use the $1/1 printable HERE

This is what I picked up:

2 TJ’s Milks $2.99 each
2 TJ’s Salsa $2.29 each (the BEST salsa ever!)
1 TJ’s creamy peanut butter $1.79
1 TJ’s package of mushrooms $1.79
1 TJ’s 3 ct package of zucchini $2.99
1 TJ’s package of baby carrots $1.69
2 TJ’s Tortilla Chips $1.99 each
1 TJ’s Chipolte hummus $1.99 (yummy!)
6 Organic Bananas $0.29 each
1 TJ’s package of Mahi-Mahi Fillets $4.94

Total OOP: $32.67
Total Saved :$0
Notice the veggies, chips and fish are reasonabley priced.  I had to get the salsa and hummus because it’s just so good!
How did you do?
