More About Me:

I have been with my wonderful husband, Derrick, for 11 years. We have 2 energetic kids that keep me on my toes. Monkey is 6 and LuLu is 3. We live in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.  I welcome you to meet my family and learn about our spending habits.

After my son was born, my coupon usage became more of an obsession. I’ve always enjoyed finding a good bargain and watching my grocery spending become less each month. I have taken this further into frugal living by cooking more, wasting less, shopping for the best deals, and much more. I have found that I can put more money into things that are beneficial and enjoyable to my family by changing my spending habits.

Once we were debt free (except for our house), we continued saving money so I could stay home with our 2 children.  We enjoy using our savings to spend time together as a family and create memories.   We also love traveling and exploring the World – day trips camping or hiking, heading to Disney World or taking a Cruise.  My husband and I have fond memories of family vacations growing up and we want to share those same experiences with our kids.

I started blogging in January 2010. I used to send out emails to family and friends with all the deals I was finding. I felt like I was bombarding their inbox’s with deals (which I was). I wanted a place where they could go at their leisure to find coupons and deals, thus The Coupon Challenge was born!

I love comments and getting to know my readers.  Leave a comment or send me an email to say hi!  I’m always looking to improve The Coupon Challenge, so let me know your thoughts, needs or questions.

Thanks for reading!

Melissa – Content Contributor and Farm Fresh Matchups

Hi! My name is Melissa. I grew up in Virginia Beach and now live in Hampton, Va. I’m a Navy Brat and moved to Virginia Beach when I was 7 years old so I proudly call Hampton Roads home. I am a mother of 3 wonderful kids, Danielle, Cole and Mikey. These days it is just John (the love of my life & best friend) and I at home with our kitty cat Kathy. John is an Army Veteran, Tanker, and I am a Disabled Navy Veteran and yes I miss it so very much! :o) I was an FMF (Combat) Corpsman, EMT/ EVOC, Pharmacy Technician and even served time with the Marines. HooRah!

I have always couponed, even as a child with my mom, but not the strategic way that I do now. I would make a list, find coupons for items that were on my list and then proceed to shop and spend way to much on groceries for the family. I came across “strategic” couponing a couple of years ago while I was in the hospital. I was flipping through the TV channels one night and came across “THAT” show. Yes, you know which one that I am talking about. :o) And no, I no longer watch “That” show. So anyway, I was discharged from the hospital and I went home and eagerly started researching on the internet everything that I could about this type of couponing. That is how I came upon “The Coupon Challenge” and fell in love instantly. Especially with the Farm Fresh Matchups! I was so happy to find a website that was local with deals specific to this area. Soon after, I quickly realized that the show was a farce, but yes you can save LOTS of money and even get items for free doing it the “right” way. I was hooked to couponing immediately! It became my obsession and a game of sorts. How much could I buy for the least amount of money?

Emily – Content Contributor and Giveaways

-1

Hi! My name is Emily but most people just call me “Em” these days. I am married to the love of my life, Brock, and together we have the two best kids in the world, Jack and Lucy. Baby #3 is due in December 2013 and we couldn’t be happier to become a party of five!

I started couponing when I quit my commercial interior design job to stay at home with my babies. It was a hard decision to make since I loved my career, but I knew it was the right choice for my family. Hubs is an public school elementary school teacher and together we’ve found ways to live (and enjoy!) a debt free life, except for our mortgage. I always say “we have everything we need and almost everything we want” . . . with the exception of historic house in the country and a decked out minivan and a few ponies, right? Just kidding.

Stonyfield Farm Organic Yogurt Review & Giveaway *CLOSED*

*CLOSED*

My kids love Stonyfield organic yogurt! We recently tried the Stonyfield 6oz yogurt cups and YoKids squeezers. Stonyfield yogurt has been so popular that the YoKids squeezers have been requested over the other tube yogurts in the fridge. I asked my kids what they thought of Stonyfield organic yogurt. LuLu said her squeezer tasted like strawberries and Monekyboy said his Cherry Vanilla cup was delicious. I liked the smooth, natural taste of the strawberry yogurt. Since we eat sooo much yogurt, it has been a nice change to offer an organic variety to the kids.

Stonyfield Farm has a long history of working to protect the environment. Stonyfield Farm began in 1983 as a farming school in New Hampshire. In the beginning, yogurt was sold as a way to fund the school. After realizing a successful yogurt company could make a greater impact on the environment, the company moved to a new location in 1988. They have been churning out delicious, organic dairy products ever since.

Stonyfield Farm produces a wide range of organic dairy products for the entire family. You can start your baby eating organic YoBaby yogurt made with whole milk, then move on to YoToddler and YoKids varieties as your child grows. Each variety is designed with kids nutritional needs at each stage of development. Parents and older children will love the traditional Stonyfield yogurt and new Oikos yogurt. However, Stonyfield Farm sells more than just yogurt. They also produce organic milk and ice cream to round out your dairy needs.

My family would definitely recommend trying Stonyfield Farm organic dairy products. We have recently switched the kids to drinking only organic milk. We hope to move more towards organic yogurt products as our grocery budget allows.

Buy It: You can purchase Stonyfield products at retailers nationwide. Make sure you print off Stonyfield coupons to keep your family eating organic for less.

Bento Lunch Box from EasyLunchBoxes.com Review & Giveaway *CLOSED*

Welcome to my last giveaway for the Healthy Families Happy Kids Event!  I hope you enjoyed all the fabulous products!
*CLOSED*

I love my Bento Lunch Box from EasyLunchBoxes.com!  The cooler bag is easy to clean and has plenty of room for the container, a drink and any extras that are needed.  I can’t express how excited I am to have the awesome containers from EasyLunchBoxes!  I have used the containers to make lunches everyday since my set arrived.  I haven’t used baggies all school year!  Granted the kids have only been in school over a month, but we’re off to a good start.

I also pack Derrick’s lunches in the containers from EasyLunchBoxes and was astonished at how well they’ve held up.  I was concerned the containers would come back gross or damaged from being on a construction site.  However, his designated container has held up well under torturous conditions.  Another concern I had was that my kids would either leave their containers at school or worse, throw them away.  I am happy to report that we still have all 4 containers!

What’s so great about the products at EasyLunchBoxes? They are:

  • Eco-Friendly
  • For Kids and Adults
  • Bento-Style, 3-Compartments
  • Less Pieces, More Function
  • No BPA, Lead, Vinyl or PVC
  • Affordable and Durable
  • Easy Prep, Easy Cleanup
  • Nesting Containers
  • Custom, Washable Cooler Bag

The 3-compartments allow me to pack a main dish (usually a sandwich), fruit/veggie and a treat.  I am a firm believer in packing lunches.  Not only can you save a TON of money, but you can pack healthier options.  You can find countless lunch ideas on the website if you’re looking to mix things up a bit.

I also love that the containers are dishwasher and microwave safe without all the nasty chemicals.  I typically hand wash the containers for reuse the next day, but it’s nice to have the option to throw them in the dishwasher before I run the load.  I’d highly recommend a Bento Lunch Box from EasyLunchBoxes for their practicality, ease of use and affordability!

Buy It:  You can purchase a waste free lunch box online.  The cooler bag is $7.95 and a set of four containers is $13.95.

Win It:  One Coupon Challenge reader will win one cooler bag and a set of four containers (a $21.90 value)!  The mandatory entry method must be completed before any extra entries. You must leave a separate comment for each method of entry.

The Winner will be selected at random. Please make sure you leave your email address with each entry or public on your profile. The Winner will be contacted via email after the close of the giveaway. The winner will have 48 hours to respond to my email or a new winner will be selected. Entry for this giveaway will close on Tuesday, November 2nd at 8pm EST.

Nature’s Path Organic Review & Giveaway *CLOSED*

*CLOSED*

Nature’s Path Organic offers quality, natural products for the entire family;  providing a full line of breakfast products, healthy snacks and baking mixes.  They believe “healthy foods don’t need to be boring and tasteless.”  Although all products are made with organic ingredient’s and are free of artificial flavors and preservatives; Nature’s Path is continuously adding new recipes, using exotic ingredients, and “researching the latest (or most ancient) superfoods.”

We tried the Flax Plus Maple Pecan Crunch Cereal, Heritage Cereal, FlaxPlus Granola Cereal, Oatmeal Packets, Granola Bars and a special treat of Lemur Peanut Choco Drizzle Crispy Rice Bars.  The Crispy Rice Bars are a healthy alternative for your little trick-or-treater.  My kids immediatly tore into the packs and loved them!  I thought it was particularly great that 1% of  EnviroKids sales are donated to species and habitat conservation or education programs for kids.  Not only are you providing your child with an organic product, but you’re helping to protect one of the endangered species on the packaging!
The kids didn’t like any of the cereal options we were provided.  However, they gobbled up the oatmeal.  Monkeyboy favored the Maple Pecan and LuLu loved the Apple Cinnamon.  I loved that I could read EVERY ingredient in the oatmeal.  The kids also loved the granola bars and ate them for a snack all week!Derrick enjoyed all 3 Nature’s Path Organic Cereals.  His favorite was the Maple Pecan Crunch cereal.  He said it had a nice sweet taste with more crunch than you find in traditional cereals.  We all agreed that Nature’s Path Organics are delicious products the entire family can enjoy!

Buy It: You can purchase Nature’s Path Organic products online and at select retailers nationwide.
Win It: One Coupon Challenge reader will win a Nature’s Path Organic product pack similar to the one pictured above. The mandatory entry method must be completed before any extra entries. You must leave a separate comment for each method of entry.

The Winner will be selected at random. Please make sure you leave your email address with each entry. The Winner will be contacted via email after the close of the giveaway.
