New Rite Aid Coupon Policy

Here we go again.  Another store coupon policy change…

Rite Aid has issued a new coupon policy which officially goes into effect June 1st, 2011.  However, I am hearing that some stores have already implemented this new policy.

Two huge changes:

  • Will not accept a Buy One Get One Free coupon in conjunction with a Buy One Get One Free promotion.
  • Will only accept up to 4 identical coupons for the same number of qualifying items as long as there is stock to satisfy other customers within the manager’s sole discretion.

Will this affect your shopping at Rite Aid?

Thanks, This Mama Loves Her Bargains!

DEFINITELY WILL NEGATIVELY AFFECT MY SHOPPING.
I JUST HATE THAT WHEN THIS COUPON SHOW IS GONE, WE WILL STILL BE STUCK WITH THE STRICTER POLICIES PUT IN PLACE BECAUSE OF IT :(.

Is it really personal? I must say that I am a little bummed that everyone seems to be changing their policies in response to a show. Before the “show” there wasn’t any problems and things were carrying on business as usual. I know for me, I have yet to go to one store in my area that allows such great use of coupons. I usually have to make several trips in order to get the things I want. I think I am ok with the up to 4 limit as I have seen others literally take every single item off the shelf(when there is a full shelf). The buy one get one is one that I am really not happy with. Oh well, we will see how it goes. I feel like those who abide by and are ethical are being punished for those who don’t do the same.

It’s too bad. I know I’ve used B1G1 on a B1G1 sale at Rite Aid in the past. And the “manager’s sole discretion” thing really bothers me.

Its not going to change my shopping at Rite Aid as I only buy what I need when its on sale. You can’t blame the stores when people are turning into hoarders, clearing the shevles so no one else can get in on good deals. Say what you want nobody needs 500 bottles of laundry detergent or 1500 rolls of toliet paper. I agree with Kathy that once the phase ends of extreme couponing the regular folks are stuck with the fallout.

I was glad that they clarified that you can use 1 “48”, 1 “49”, AND 1 “5” coupon on a single item. Last time I had some “49” coupons from the rite aide site, and because they say manufacturer’s coupon, the manager was hesitant to put both that and a regular newspaper coupon through for the same item. She made me feel like I was cheating. So I’m glad to have it in writing that I didn’t do anything wrong!

Many are changing their policies because the show is encouraging bad behavior. The grossly bad behavior of a few will always affect the many. No way around it. Not to mention, companies are not in business to give their products away.

It won’t decrease my shopping at Rite Aid. Maybe now I’ll actually have a shot at getting some of the bargains too.

I don’t think it had much to do with that stupid extreme couponing show…. Coupon redemption is a serious matter. As a person that has worked in retail for many years I can tell you that coupons are treated as money and its accountability is highly stressed. In one of my training sessions I was also told that manufacturers impose a limit on the amount of like coupons that are reimbursed. It is possible that merchants may have found themselves in the losing end if not every coupon was being reimbursed. When it comes to a bogo coupon on a bogo sale I never understood how it was being allowed to begin with. How can you use a coupon on an item that you are paying zero on? And by the way for as many honest couponers like us out there, there are just as many that are not. I see them just about every day taking advantage of the cashier that is not coupon savvy. I have seen all the tricks by now.

Gabrielle, I would love to have a guest post from you sometime on the perspective of a cashier, if you ever feel so inclined. I think it could be beneficial to a lot of people.

Yes, we will feel the repercussions long after the show is gone.

Good point Peggy, maybe some of the items will still be in stock 🙂
