Savings Pledge Update

The Savings.com Savings Pledge is on Fire!  Over $21,260,000 has been pledged to save!  That number is truly remarkable!  More people are pledging to save everyday, so you can still add your Savings Pledge over on the Facebook Page.

I have a confession…

I’m not fulfilling my Savings Pledge!

I Pledged to save for a family vacation to Hawaii to see my brother, sister-in-law and the baby next year.  They were going to be stationed in HI for 3 years.  Well, the Army decided to change plans at the last minute.  My little brother is now stationed back home; therefore, an expensive Hawaiian vacation is no longer necessary.

We had started saving, brainstormed ways to cut costs and analyzed out current savings to ensure we had the finances available to cover the trip.  After learning that a trip was not in our future, we continued to save but hadn’t really determined what our new Savings Pledge would be.

One day I was with the kids in their Playroom (our FROG) and decided I couldn’t take it any longer.  The FROG is 1 of 2 rooms in my home that has not been renovated.  The carpet is old & gross, I hate the paint color and we needed more storage/organization.  Derrick and I talked it over and decided that using the money we had allocated for HI would be a wise move both personally and financially.

What we did:

  • Ripped up the carpet and added laminate wood floors
  • Repainted
  • Built a cover for the A/C unit
  • Added can lights
  • Purchased a storage unit and new baskets

While the room is not completely put together (it took awhile to find the storage unit I liked and at a price we could afford), the room already looks amazing.  We added value to our home and turned the room into something the entire family can enjoy.

What are we saving for now?  We have no idea.  Derrick & I will decide that at our next financial check-in meeting, so I will keep you posted.

How are you coming along with your Savings Pledge?
