Little Green Books Review & Giveaway

by Dana Zeliff on April 20, 20112011-04-20
in Giveaways

Disclosure: This post may contain an affiliate link.

Little Green Books are designed to get your little one excited about going green.  Important topics such as recycling, replanting and endangered species are brought to life through fun & engaging characters.   Little Green Books “plant the seeds of eco-friendly consciousness at an early age so that we can grow a generation of earth-friendly readers.”

Not only are Little Green Books reinforcing green living through words, the books themselves are environmentally friendly!  Personally, I find that to be a great extra touch to a wonderful series!

A few environmentally friendly features:

  • Printed with vegetable or soy based ink
  • Made from recycled materials
  • Books are 100% recyclable
  • Most books are made with FSC recycled paper

My kids were provided with 3 books to review.  We read Don’t Throw That Away, My First Garden and The Adventures of a Plastic Bottle countless times over the past few weeks.

Don’t Throw that Away teaches children to think about reusing items instead of throwing them in the trash.  This is a lift-the-flap board book made from 100% recycled material.  Parents of little ones know that lift-the-flap books are always a hit and are a fun way for children to interact with a story.

My First Gardenis about a mother and daughter watching a vegetable garden grow. This cute story reinforces colors and shows kids some of the vegetables they could grow in a home garden.  An extra special feature is a handle cut-out for your child to carry the book around.  We kept losing our copy sine LuLu would carry it all over the house!

The Adventures of a Plastic Bottle is perfect for older children.  Monkey Boy told me several times, “Wow, that’s interesting.”  The book reveals recycling from a whole new perspective. The story is a series of diary entries from the perspective of a plastic bottle.  It’s a record of “his” journey from the refinery plant all the way to becoming a fleece jacket.  I even learned something with this book!

I loved that the books include a glossary of terms so that parents and children can learn together.  Moms and dads need help with v occasionally too!  Additionally, you will find downloadable activities on the website to share more lessons with you children.

Win it: Five (5) Lucky winners will receive the 3 Little Green Books mentioned above!

The Winners will be selected at random.  The winners will be contacted via email after the close of the giveaway. The winners will have 48 hours to respond to my email or a new winner will be selected. Entry for this giveaway will close on Thursday, May 5th at 8pm EST.

I loved the little Monkey book. My son is really into monkeys right now and I think he would (and I) would both love to learn more about endangered species. I am also trying to be a responsible mother and teach him about his impact on the environment. These books would help me accomplish my goal.

This is the tip I learned:
Use an old egg carton to grow seedlings of tomatoes, beans, or other foods. Fill the carton with soil and plant a seed in each compartment. Place the carton near a sunny window and remember to water the seeds. When the seeds have grown into seedlings, transfer them to your garden outside.

I love that they use FSC materials and the book selection is terrific. The fleece and cloth Little Monkey book would be a perfect first book for toddlers.
