I wanted share this press release I received.   Window World in Virginia Beach is matching all food donations dropped off at their location POUND-FOR-POUND!  What a great way to double your donations!

Window World of Tidewater to Match Food Donations Pound for Pound Plus 189 Pounds for the Extreme Food Drive to Coincide with ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

TIDEWATER, Va. –  Window World, local and national heavyweight in the vinyl window replacement  industry and Home of the $189 Installed Window, will be matching food donations at their new showroom drop-off location “pound for pound plus 189 pounds” in conjunction with the Extreme Food Drive as part of their participation in ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

The Extreme Food Drive will begin January 20 at a pep rally to be held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center from 7-9pm where Window World will make their first donation of 189 pounds of food to contribute toward the 306,000 pound goal of the drive. Achieving the goal would make it not only the largest food drive in the history of Hampton Roads but also the largest ever conducted in conjunction with an Extreme Makeover build.

“When the opportunity to donate a house of windows and entry and garage doors presented itself to help a deserving family here in Hampton Roads as part of the Extreme Makeover Home Edition TV program, we were in,” says Josh Reed, the President of Window World.  “Whether it is St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Veterans Airlift Command, it is part of our perpetual mission to give back and lend a helping hand where we can.  The Extreme Food Drive was an excellent idea to expand that helping hand out to more than just one deserving family.  We encourage everyone to consider doubling their donation simply by bringing their non-perishable food items to our showroom and we will match their donation pound for pound.”

The Window World drop-off site is their new showroom location at 3517 Virginia Beach Boulevard off the I-264 exit, just east of Rosemont Road in Virginia Beach.  Showroom and drop-off hours are Monday through Thursday 8am to 5pm, Friday 8am to 430pm and Saturday 10am to 1pm.  Donations will be accepted January 21^st through February 4^th as a lead up to when the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition home is projected to be completed on February 5^th.

Non-glass containers are preferred.

Coupon users are in a unique position to help those in need.  We are able to purchase items for free or cheap and usually in large quantities.  We can spend less and give more!

– You can donate food to a local food bank or pantry, hygiene & baby care products to a local shelter and pet products to an animal shelter.

– Purchase free or cheap items your family won’t use specifically for donating.  My family doesn’t eat instant potatoes or helper meals, but I buy them at rock bottom prices specifically to donate.

– Clean out your stockpile & donate the extra your family doesn’t need.  If you have several items expiring within the next 6 months, consider donating a few.

– However, don’t donate expired or open containers.   The product may be perfectly fine to consume after the expiration date, but save those for your family to make that call.

– Purchase donation items & donate while in the store to save yourself a trip.  A lot of grocery stores have food donation drop off boxes located at the front of the store for your convenience.

– Don’t clear the shelves.  Yes, it is amazing to purchase items for others.  However, other shoppers need the products to feed their families.  Clearing the shelves of all the cereal on sale means someone else that truly needs to eat the food misses out.  It’s a fine balance between adding to your stockpile, donating & leaving items for others.
