by Dana Zeliff on August 28, 20102010-08-28
in Uncategorized

Disclosure: This post may contain an affiliate link.

I was given the opportunity to review a product from CSNStores.com!  Several months ago I hosted a well received giveaway from CSNStores.com.  You’ll get your chance to win another gift code during the Healthy Families 4 Healthy Kids Event in October.  I wanted to share with you one of the items I’m looking at for myself.  We are actively looking for a new dining table.  I have looked in almost every local store and still don’t see a dining table I want.  I’ve dealt with an empty dining room for a year now, so I’m in no hurry to spend the money we saved until I find just the right table.

I’ll post more about what product I decide to purchase from one of the 200+ stores available at CSNStores.com.  I’m always getting products for the kids, so this time I think it’s mommies turn!  We’ll see…

Thrifty Thursday: Support Local Schools

by Dana Zeliff on August 26, 20102010-08-26

I am a big supporter of my local schools.  My son is in 1st grade at a public elementary school and my daughter attends a church preschool.   In these tough economic times, education budget cuts are affecting schools across the nation.  Programs that directly benefit students are being dropped due to lack of funding.

I urge you to consider these (or other) programs.  It only takes a few seconds to clip a Box Top or register your loyalty card.  If you don’t have children or your children don’t attend a school that participates in the program, consider donating to another school in your area.   Coupon shoppers are a valuable asset to schools because we purchase countless items cheap or free, and we never forget to scan our loyalty cards!

I wanted to mention a couple national programs plus a few programs at my local grocery stores:

Box Tops for Education is a General Mills program that gives $0.10 to a participating school for every Box Top redeemed.  I know it doesn’t sound like a lot, but my mother-in-laws school earned $1,323.00 in 2009!  You can also participate in store promotions to earn Box Tops Certificates.  Approximately 2 weeks ago, I ended up with 5 certificates worth 50 Box Tops each. I earned an extra $25 for my school!  A few participating products include: Nature Valley, Cascadian Farms, Betty Crocker, and Kleenex.

Labels for Education is a Campbells’ program that allows you to earn points for your school through specially marked proof of purchase labels from Campbell’s family brands.  Points range from 1-10 points depending on the product.  Campbell’s Soup carries a 1 point value label, Campbell’s Select Soup has a 5 point label and Pop Secret Popcorn labels are worth 10 points.  Did you get free Pepperidge Farm lately?  There is a 1 point label on the side!

The 123-4 Community is a Farm Fresh program that allows you to save Farm Fresh receipts, so schools can redeem them for FREE educational equipment. Over the past 12 years, Farm Fresh has donated over $2.5 million in educational equipment back to the community through receipt collection programs.  Look for the 123-4 Community Logo on the bottom of your receipts starting in September.

Together in Education is a Harris Teeter program that allows schools to earn cash through a link to VIC cards.  When customers purchase select Harris Teeter Brand products using their VIC card, Harris Teeter contributes a percentage of those purchase dollars to the schools of their choice.  Last year, schools earned almost $1.4 million dollars!  You must relink your card every year.

Healthy Kids Bloom is sponsored by Bloom Grocery Stores.  Shoppers can earn points by using their Breeze Card.  Bloom is committing $300,000 for education this year.  I  know they are also a continuous sponsor of Moneyboy’s school.

*Most Public and Private Schools participate in specific programs.  Check with your local schools to learn which programs your school participates in.
I’d love to learn about other programs!
