We went Strawberry picking at Poor John’s Farm in Chesapeake this morning. Strawberry season has just arrived so the fields were full of beautiful, red berries. Can you tell what my favorite fruit is?
The price is $1.49lb at Poor John’s. A good sale at my local grocery store is $2.00-$2.50 per lb. We spent $26 for strawberries and 3 yellow squash. I plan to make jam with the berries this year, so we may need to pick more in a couple weeks.
I came home and cut up the berries into containers for the fridge. We love to just snack on plain strawberries (hubby likes to add sugar), but here are a few other things I like to do:
Strawberries with whipped topping
Strawberries with ice cream
Strawberry pie
Strawberries on pankcakes or waffles
Strawberry Jam
Fruit Salad
Chocolate Covered Strawberries (more later)
Freeze strawberries for smoothies
