I know I’ve been slacking on the events front. There is so much I want to post and working that around my family makes it difficult to stay on track. Kiddos are in bed, so here are some events happening in Portsmouth, VA. There are way too many things going on in Portsmouth, so I picked some to highlight. 9th Annual Power in the Park – FREE
“The Hottest Show on H2O” – Portsmouth offers one of the fastest race courses in the U.S. Several world records have been set on this well protected race site situated in a park setting. Come by boat or car and enjoy a day at the races.

Portsmouth Restaurant Week – Food Purchase
Most of the participating restaurants will provide price fix lunch menus and dinner menus. Portsmouth Restaurant Weeks’ beneficiary is EdMarc Hospice for Children, which serves families all over Hampton Roads. Atlantic Coast Kite Festival – FREE
A collaboration between the Courthouse Galleries in Portsmouth and the BeachEvents program, the Atlantic Coast Kite Festival is an exciting weekend of high-flying kites and fun for families, participants, and spectators of all ages!
Portsmouth City Park becomes the venue for the kite festival as kite fliers are invited to participate in workshops, view demonstrations, and learn techniques for flying kites of all shapes and sizes.

126th Annual Memorial Day Parade – FREE
The nation’s oldest annually held parade. The City of Portsmouth presents the 126th Annual Memorial Day Parade. Annually, the Memorial Day Parade salutes the service and sacrifices of the men and women of the military and celebrates Portsmouth’s proud military heritage.

The Parade Route: The 1800 block of High Street at I.C. Norcom High School will be the starting point for the parade which will travel east on High Street; turn right on Crawford Street; and end at Columbia Street.
U.S. Army Band in Concert – FREE, Tickets Required
Since 1922, this superb ensemble has maintained a tradition of excellence as one of the premier musical organizations of The United States Army. The Band was founded in 1922 by Army Chief of Staff General John J. “Black Jack” Pershing to emulate European military bands he heard during World War I. The U.S. Army Band proudly plays an important role in events of national and international significance. Share this rousing performance with family and friends!

Watch for the Snow Babies frolicking nearby in the courtyard.
