Love this! I went back and did my yogurt deal again–twice. I had extra coupons so I got two packs of danactive, a pack of crush yogurt, pack of danimals, and one pack of activia. it was 13 cents of tax out of pocket after $1 coupons for each item. That was it. 13 cents. THEN it goes and prints a $5 thank you coupon since I bought 5 participating dairy items 🙂 I did that twice so I took my $10 in coupons and headed to the deli to get a bunch of meat and cheese for a whomping $2.78. Rocking coupon love from FF lately!
What an awesome trip! I can't recall ever making $10 at the grocery store. I'd have been dancing out of the store!
I honestly had enough to do it one more time but that is alot of yogurt–even for us. As it was, I did this deal three times in the last week–paying only a total of 39 cents in tax for about $45 of yogurt and receiving $15 back in thank you coupons. I just made sure to get yogurts that had expiration dates well into July and picked up some that have the option to freeze (like the crush cups. TIP: stick a Popsicle stick into the top and freeze. then just gently slide it out once frozen. my four year old went nuts for this! I am testing one of the drinkables with the same method. not sure it worked yet.)
My son asked me to try that but I wasn't sure if it would work. "But mom, I saw it on TV!" Great idea for using up some of that free yogurt.
Now I'm mad-just went through coupons my MIL gave me and there's 4 yogurt coupons-should have checked earlier!
Well it works great for Crush Cups–don't try to freeze the drinkables lol it was a bust if kept in the container. But I think if we near expiration and they are still not used yet, I will pour those into our Popsicle molds and do it that way, maybe adding a few small chunks of fruit in there? Sorry about the coupons! Believe me, I've had that happen!
Good to know-it would be just like me to throw a few packages in there and have them be ruined. I need to put together something to stick in the crush cups. I was informed, the commercial says to crush it up frozen but I'm not going there. What a mess a 3 yr old would make.
That is what my 7 year old did. All our crush cups were shoved into the freezer by little hands 😉 She took hers, without a stick, out of the freezer and smashed it in a bowl. But she is 7. My four year old got the stick version 🙂 Do you have any Popsicle molds? We used the plastic handles from thatin our crush cups. I would think you could take about any yogurt–activia included–and scoop it into those dollar store molds and freeze it to make popsciles. If I end up doing the fruit chunks with the drinkables idea, I know they will float all to the top/bottom versus freezing a thicker yogurt where you can kinda shove them in all over. The drinkables freeze fine in that they dont' explode. But you can't get it out. DUH STACE-look at the shape of the package. lol That one, I admit, was thawed slightly then was given to my four year old to smash with a spoon ;p But as far as ease, crush cups seem the best for freezing. but if you have molds and don't mind transferring the yogurt over, I don't see why it wouldn't work with most yogurts–drinkable or otherwise. I would do it–especially if some were nearing expiration. Can't let free yogurt go to waste afterall!
BTW I did some quick research to make sure and everything online says freezing your yogurt does NOT kill the live and active cultures and it appears many people freeze theirs by just throwing their favorite single serve containers in the freezer then packing them in lunches. That way they thaw by lunch but are still cold. I had done that with gogurts but hadn't tried with kinds like activia. Now it's a matter of how creative and fun we can get with them with it being summer time–hence my Popsicle thread ;p I will not let my 60 containers of yogurt go to waste lol (2 of my 3 kids eat 2 to 3 containers a day each so it is eaten quicker than you would think in this house. Those 60 containers may well be gone in under 2 weeks)
Now you need to type a post for your site about your adventures in freezing yogurt. I'll link ya 🙂
I like the yogurt popsicle idea. I knew you got alot of free yogurt but, 60 containers! We eat alot too but when you actually put it out there, WOW! I hope you have it organized in the fridge by expiration date. Warning: You must eat yogurt from the front and work your way back-violators will be prosecuted. Sorry, I'm just envisioning all that yogurt in my fridge. Hold on…I had to go count mine, down to 30.
Thanks for sharing! I appreciate it!
