The following tip was submitted by Mindy:
By using prepaid gas tickets, I can save 25 cents/gallon on gas without buying groceries. Let say I want to spend $40 to fill up my gas tank. I will buy 5 prepaid tickets at DIFFERENT denominations ($6, $9, $7, $13,$5). Each ticket will also come with a $0.05/gallon coupon, so I will get 5 coupons = $0.25/gallon. I can only use 5 gas coupons each time filling gas so splitting into 6 prepaid tickets won’t help.
My credit card company also give me 5% back for any purchase at grocery store. It like getting back at least 15 cents for every gallon (for buying prepaid gas tickets). So total saving 40 cents (0.25+0.15)per gallon.
I have tried this at N Military and Mt Pleasant store
Farm Fresh’s Gas Discount Policy is a follows:
- Shop at participating Farm Fresh stores and earn Gas Rewards. The more you purchase, the more you save at the pump!
- Earn 1¢ off per gallon for every $10 in qualified purchases (maximum 50¢).
- Fuel at the pump with your Gas Rewards receipt code(s) (up to 5 Gas Reward receipts). Save instantly on up to 20 gallons!

What are prepaid gas tickets? Do you get them at customer service?
You can get them at any register! Also, Farm Fresh gives you an extra 5 cents off if you prepay in the store. What is also good is that it calculates the $10 BEFORE coupons! So there is many times that I spend $40 before coupons, but only pay less than $15, so I will get a 4 cent discount.
Thanks for the good info., Kim. Do the different donominations have to be done in different transactions or all in one transaction?
I heard that if you don’t split the prepaid gas tickets (in the store) in different denominations, you won’t get the gas coupon. Let’s say you buy $5 in 1st transaction and get 5 cent coupon. On the next transaction another $5 won’t produce the 5 cent coupon (the cashier told me). It is true that prepaid ticket comes with 5 cents coupon regardless amount. I’ve done many times.
I’m not sure if you can get free cake with gas prepaid ticket (or they meant for grocery purchase only), but that would be nice!
I bought prepaid gas tickets many times at N military store but only once (last week) at Mt pleasant. I got 5 coupons of 5 cents/gallon each time. There is no point to break into more than 5 transactions since you can only 5 coupons per transactions….unless you want to save for later on make sure you look at the EXPIRATION DATE on the prepaid tickets (I think they expires the same day…not sure…didn’t pay attention on them) and gas coupon.
I also heard from a friend that the cashier at Cedar rd store may discard the gas coupon instead of giving it to you if the amount of gas prepaid is less than $20 (not sure the amount). So beware.
any cash register
I thought you only earned $.01 for every $10 in qualifying purchases. How are you getting 5 $.05 gas reward tickets when your gas card purchases only total $40? Wouldn’t you only get 1 for $.04??
Good tip, just wanted to ad that when they have the Farm Fresh coupons for the free item when you make a additional $10 purchase, gas works for that. I get $10 in gas at the register and the free item !
I have to try that for the free cake….thank you. By the way, this is the insider tip from the cashier, Farm fresh doesn’t advertise or encourage customers to do this. Please don’t give the cashier a hard time. If it works then enjoy the saving, but don’t make a fuss with the cashier. If Farm Fresh see that we abuse the system they can stop anytime.
I am confused…I think? I checked FF’s website and found nothing about prepaid gas tickets. To clarify…the prepaid gas tickets are different than the gas rewards, right? I faithfully use gas rewards, where I get a receipt printed to total $.01 for every $10 spent (and yes, it is based on your total before coupons!) But you are saying that you can purchase prepaid gas tickets at the register, which will be added to your total and therefore increase your gas rewards…but the prepaid gas tickets themselves also come with a $.05/gallon “reward”…no matter the prepaid ticket amount? I understand breaking the total up into five prepaid tickets, but why the different denominations? And are they good for 30 days like the regular gas rewards? If so, you could break them up into as many tickets as you would use in 30 days and get more rewards, right? Please, please explain!
Hi all, I sent Mindy an email asking her to answer your questions.

I’m SOOO confused. Just came back from the Williamsburg Farm Fresh and tried this. Purchased a $5 gas ticket and got no gas coupon. Then bought a $10 gas ticket and got one gas coupon for $.01. How in the world are you getting $.05 coupons for every gas ticket you buy? They’re only issuing coupons at $.01 per $10 in purchases rate just like any other purchase
I went today to try the prepaid gas ticket at Farm Fresh in Williamsburg. At the Williamsburg stores you have to get a $25 prepaid gas ticket to get the $.05 coupon. $25.00 is the minimum amount. Hope this helps.
Yes, it does…..Thank you! That makes sense now. 🙂
I’m sorry that it didn’t work out for Debi and you @ Williamsburg store. I did again at Mt Pleasant rd store on Sunday 4/7 ($10, $11, $2, $3 per transaction and got 4 $0.05 gas coupons = 20 cents/gallon…was going to do another transaction but my tank was only half empty, I didn’t want to over fill it) and got the free cake too! I guess at certain stores they already fixed the system so that the gas coupon won’t print out unless you buy certain amount.
I went into my local ram Fresh tonight and saw a new sign with a new rule on gas purchases tonight. Minimum of $25.00 in order to get the .05 cents off per gallon. I knew that this did not sound right to me, so I never did this. Now thanks to this deal, my teenage son who I used to give 10.00 and 15.00 to to fill his tank when necessary can no longer save .05 per gallon. I just thought that I would post this and hope that people think about doing deals like this as it did seem too good to be true.
Can anyone tell me when the $.05 reward for the prepaid gas tickets expires? The regular rewards expire in 30 days….is it the same? Also, can you purchase the tickets (and get the $.05 reward) at one store but then redeem them at another. My husband works on the southside but we live on the peninsula…seems like this scenario is working for southside stores…?
