I shopped at Walgreen’s this week to use up RR’s that expire today.  I’m not sure where my brain has been lately. I went to WAGS and picked up the items on the left then realized I had another $5 RR to use.  Back to the store I went.  Unfortunately, the free contact solution was sold out.  It worked out well enough in the end.

I went to CVS with the perfect plan.  Get where I’m going with this?  I’ve been reading all about the $1.99 Neutrogena deal, buy 2 and earn $10 ECB’s.  Well, my store doesn’t carry that size.  My whole plan went out the window.  I paid more OOP than I would have liked, but I purchased items I needed using the CRT’s that printed today.
*ALWAYS scan your Extra Care Card when you walk into the store

My Kroger Trip #2

by Dana Zeliff on July 24, 20102010-07-24
in Kroger, My Shopping Trip

Disclosure: This post may contain an affiliate link.

I made an unexpected trip to Kroger yesterday.  I didn’t think it would work out, so I didn’t have my binder to walk the aisles or the $1/2 Quaker Rice Cakes printable for FREE Rice Cakes (after Mega Event).

My first note: They removed the blinkie machine!  I was bummed! It’s not like they wouldn’t be reimbursed by Kraft.  Luckily I’d pulled an extra on Thursday.  I decided against a 4th set of cheese just because I had sooo much chunk and all the shredded bags were gone-I needed mozzarella.

*Onions and apples were more than I’d pay, but I needed the onions and the kids asked for apples.  Your kids ask for fruit, you comply 🙂

Transaction 1
Onions $2.38 (like $1.97)
Apples $3.49 (like $2.50)
Bread $1.50
Goat cheese $5.39
– $5.39 Free product coupon
– $5 CAT from trip #1

Paid: $2.69
Saved: $11.08

Transaction 2
5 Kraft cheese $1.49 each
4 Kraft Easy Mac $0.99 each
1 Sierra mist $0.99
– $5 Mega Event
– $1/2 Kraft blinkie coupon
– $5 CAT from trip #1

Paid: $1.59
Saved: $24.30
Earned $5 CAT for Cheese

My Kroger Shopping Trip 07/22

by Dana Zeliff on July 22, 20102010-07-22

I just had to go to Kroger after seeing Karen’s trip and reading all the comments on my Farm Fresh Shopping Trip post.  My plan had been to test and see if the cheese Catalina would “roll.”  I’d take one for the team 🙂  However, the cashier refused to let me use it on the 2nd transaction.  I had to get back in line to use it.  Well, my items were scanned and I was on a major time crunch.  Farm Fresh doesn’t care…
I’m trying to see when I can get back.  I had 4 minutes left; could I get the items in my cart, checkout and be back in the car in 4 minutes?  I figured I shouldn’t risk it.  Poor Monkeyboy would have been stuck on the corner.
The BIG NEWS: There was a $1/2 Blinkie with the cheese!!!!  Yes, you read that right-a blinkie!  Valid on Kraft or Cracker Barrel shredded or chunk cheese~!  Oh, happy day!
Transaction 1
5 Kraft Cheese $1.49 each
2 Tombstone pizza $2.99 each
3 Kraft Easy Mac $0.99 each
3 Crest Toothpaste $1 each (not part of Mega Event)
-$5 for Mega Event
– 2 $2/1 Tombstone printables (Facebook)
– 3 $0.50/1 Crest from 06/06 PG insert
– 2 $1/2 Kraft blinkies!
Total Paid: $5.77
Total Saved $32.11
Earned $5 CAT
Transaction 2
5 Kraft Cheese $1.49 each
5 Velveeta Cups $0.99 each
– $5 for Mega Event
– 2 $1/2 Kraft blinkies!
Total Paid: $5.44
Total Saved: $20.50
Earned $5 CAT
Total Trip Spent $11.21
Total Trip Saved $52.61
Have $10 in Catalina’s

Did you hit Kroger this week?

I basically did all my grocery shopping for the week today.  Other than getting a couple things from Harris Teeter and fresh fruit, I’m done.  Okay, I may take advantage of the Kroger Mega Event and CAT deal.
I looked in the garage fridge this morning to get out an extra creamer and realized I was out.  Err!  I hate spending that much on coffee creamer, but you don’t want to see me without my coffee!

I wanted to show something a little different this week.  I’ve been looking for pretty plates for taking pictures of my recipes.  The cost for both plates and server at a yard sale this weekend was $1.25!  My problem is that now I want an entire set of the blue plates.

My Farm Fresh and Trader Joe’s Trips

Farm Fresh
I had every intention of going into FF today and only spending $0.40 + tax.  I wanted the Dole but knew it could wait until later in the week.  Well, I walked in and saw the strawberries.  I HAD to have the strawberries!
I got a comment that I missed FREE Pillsbury Brownie Mix-oh, the shame!  I hope to stop by and grab 4 free tonight.
See my matchups HERE (make sure to check out the comments section too!)
Strawberries=$1.99
2 Dentyne Gum=FREE

2 Dole Mandarin=$1

1 Uncle Ben’s Ready Rice=FREE
4 Barilla Whole Wheat Pastas=FREE
1 Dannon DanActive=FREE (still on sale for $2!!)
2 Act II popcorn=$0.40
1 Nature’s Own Bread-used free product coupon=FREE
1 Suave Shampoo-used free product coupon=FREE
1 Land o Lakes Butter-used free product coupon=FREE
Total OOP: $3.40
Total Saved: $21.08
I just had to have the strawberries 🙂
*Look for clearance carts at Mt. Pleasant-Covergirl and more.  I didn’t get a chance to look, VBS was almost over.

Trader Joe’s
I asked your opinion a few weeks ago about what you wanted from The Coupon Challenge.  I have a separate post coming out soon, but one request was Trader Joe’s and organics.  Derrick and I are talking about what types of organic foods we could add into our budget.  We haven’t made any decisions yet, but I’ll let you know when we do.  In the meantime, I’m working on getting more organic deals for you.

I love Trader Joe’s!  It is a fairly decent drive, so I don’t go very often.  That and it’s pricey.  I will say that although most of the prices are more than I pay as a couponer, some  TJ’s brands are comparable in price to a sale price in a regular grocery store.  Example: TJ’s O’s are $1.99 a box.  These are like Cheerios.  That price is comparable to a sale at Farm Fresh without a coupon.

Trader Joe’s products are not all organic, but they don’t have artificial flavors or preservatives. I find that to be the biggest draw for me. Want to know what ingredients are in the peanut butter? Dry roasted peanuts and salt. That’s it.

You will be happy to know that TJ’s is now accepting manufacturers coupons for the non-TJ brand items they sell. I confirmed this with the VA Beach location. I saw Morning Star products (forget the price).  Use the $1/1 printable HERE

This is what I picked up:

2 TJ’s Milks $2.99 each
2 TJ’s Salsa $2.29 each (the BEST salsa ever!)
1 TJ’s creamy peanut butter $1.79
1 TJ’s package of mushrooms $1.79
1 TJ’s 3 ct package of zucchini $2.99
1 TJ’s package of baby carrots $1.69
2 TJ’s Tortilla Chips $1.99 each
1 TJ’s Chipolte hummus $1.99 (yummy!)
6 Organic Bananas $0.29 each
1 TJ’s package of Mahi-Mahi Fillets $4.94

Total OOP: $32.67
Total Saved :$0
Notice the veggies, chips and fish are reasonabley priced.  I had to get the salsa and hummus because it’s just so good!
How did you do?
