Farm Fresh Prepared Foods Review

The Farm Fresh location at Mt. Pleasant in Chesapeake has a new prepared foods section. It’s conveniently located near the front of the store and cash registers, so you can pop in and out for a dinner on the run.

I know some of you are wondering why I’m writing about prepared foods when I’m an advocate of cooking at home to save money.  Yes, I can cook these meals for significantly less than purchasing the items already prepared from the store.  However, there is also the importance of convenience for my family.  I like things that are easy.  I like saving time.  Sometimes I (like most of you reading this) forget to take out dinner or just plain ‘ol don’t feel like cooking.  Maybe I’m not feeling well or have been running around crazy all day long.  Maybe you had a stressful day at work and can’t bear the thought of an hour in the kitchen.

Heading to your local Farm Fresh is most likely just as close as your local fast food joint.  Most Farm Fresh locations tend to have at least one fast food restaurant in the same shopping center.  Additionally, Farm Fresh prepared meals cost about the same if not less than the drive through.  Even more important, I’m feeding my family food that is healthier than a greasy hamburger and french fries.

Farm Fresh has a wide range of prepared foods to suite the tastes of everyone in your family.  Meatloaf, lasagna, stuffed cabbage and much more.  We tried the salmon cakes, meatloaf and asian noodles for dinner one night.  Let me tell you, dinner was EASY with very little clean-up that night!  I simply heated up our dinner and carried plates to the table.

LuLu immediately loved the Salmon Cakes.  I wanted to make sure the kids would eat then before putting on their plates since they have never eaten a salmon cake.  Monkey was running around the house refusing to try his.  That is until LuLu asked for a 2nd bite and I moved Monkey’s cake onto LuLu’s plate.  He finally tried it, exclaimed that is was “Great” and only let me eat 2 bites of mine during dinner before requesting the rest of my salmon cake.  And yes, I did give it to him 🙂

Everyone also enjoyed the meatloaf.  Both kids gobbled up every last bite and requested seconds.  While I liked the meatloaf, I’m not a big ketchup fan.  The top of the meatloaf is smothered in ketchup (which most people enjoy) so I just had to scrap all it off from my serving.

The kids did not like the asian noodles.  They were turned off by the sesame seeds.  However, my pasta-hating husband actually liked the asian noodles.  I had been anticipating just the opposite, so I thought it was a major plus that my husband actually ate all his noodles.

Overall, my family was pleased with the quality of the prepared foods purchased at the Mt. Pleasant Farm Fresh.  There is a wide selection of meals to choose from and they are easy to heat at home.  While regular purchasing of prepared meals is not in my budget, it is just as cost effective for my family to pick up a prepared meal than it is to pick up fast food or call the pizza man.

You could also pick up a loaf of fresh french bread from the bakery and a salad from the salad bar to round-out your meal.

Have you tried the prepared meals at Farm Fresh?  If so, which are your favorite?

Disclosure:  I received a Farm Fresh gift card to purchase the meals mentioned above.  No other compensation was received.  All opinions are 100% my own and my differ from others.
